Mom's visit

My mom came to visit Aug 14-23. It was much needed. She arrived very late due to a cancelled flight, so I was a bit exhausted. But after chemo, the next day, we were ready to catch up and hang out.
I left early before my 3rd chemo and went to get a short/buzz haircut. I did not like the style of it at first. But it was free, and the guy from Feel Good, Look Better was so nice to bend his schedule to fit me in. Maybe the fact we were in a retirement facility influenced the old-lady style he gave me. I headed to a local wig shop and had some fun trying on completely "not-me" styles. Then I came home and Rabab picked me up and took me to chemo.

Meanwhile, mom played with her grandson and took him in the stroller to the grocery store. She made a recipe out of our Anti-Cancer cookbook and it was yummy. Knowing how picky she is i was very happy that she liked it!!! It was a chicken soup with turkey meatballs.

Friday I took The girls to the vet. It was so nice to only have 2 children vs. three. When I got back we went to lunch and then took Lucius to the park. The park had a water feature that Lucius had never seen turned on. So he was ecstatic to get to play in it. That night we headed out back for a free Rolling Stones cover band. Lucius made a friend with a typical shy-to-boys girl by sharing our guacamole w/her.

That Saturday we had a full fun day. We went to the Family Kite Day at the Presidio. From the advertisements, we were suppose to see great enormous kites. Alas, we did not. We saw a bunch of average kites, ate local vendor food, and had fun making Lucius his own little kite. It was a good time nonetheless.

Then we headed to Run The Bases in AT&T park. So this was every Man/boy's dream. They got to stand on the mound, field, bases, dugouts...it was neat. There were activities all over the filed like, kiddie soccer, bouncy house (for just little kids!), football, basketball, puzzles, and you could even hit a ball...but that one cost you a $20 donation.

Next, we headed to a street car event over in the mission. I actually had options of items to eat. I went w/some Indian veggie sandwich. Had I written this earlier, I'd probably remember the name. The prices were very decent, $3 for tasting size. And that's what you really want at a festival, the ability to try multiple things. Little man and us were beat by the end of this day.

Monday I went to my first ever psychatrist appointment. That night we went to the Belmont Food Trucks. I found an all organic Vietnamese truck. I get pretty excited when ordering food is made easy  for me. I took my psychatrist 's advise that my mental health is more important than my diet. So I had a few garlic french fries and a couple bites of some creme brulee. btw-Lucius loved the dessert.

Tuesday we went shopping for wigs and then attended the Young Breast Cancer Support group, run by my psychiatrist.

Wednesday was laundry, ACS wig fitting, back to the nice wig shop for purchase and trim, and then date night :) Trevor and I went to a restaurant called Town. It was a lovely restaurant with grass fed beef and organic foods. They even had a "designated driver menu w/ drinks like Sparking soda with Sonoma grapes. I ordered one and fell in love when the server put it in a wine class. Normalcy. Fantastic. We then went to see Jobs, movie. Thanks to Allyson for the recommendation and Izzy for babysitting the night before. I should also give a big thanks to my taxi-driver-friend Rabab, and chef Mariko. I have a great team.

Friday we went to the zoo. Lucius always has a great time there. My mom enjoyed it too. She said she hadn't been to a zoo since she was a kid. That was a great full day.

I loved having my mom out. I'm glad she got to see me before everything goes south.
