Wig shopping

I've been up since 6am today, (Aug 20) Apparently another side effect I'm having is waking up early 2 days before chemo day. So I decided to go ahead and get up and knock out some chores before my "wig fitting" at 10.
So there are A LOT of resources for women cancer patients. I went to the makeup class and received all that free loot. I got a free haircut. Today i'll be going to the 4th place I've gone to try on wigs. Second completely free place. I already own 2 wigs. One from The Cancer Connection and one from dear Crystal (be it that it was the freakiest thing I've ever received in the mail). There's a service to offer free house cleaning once a month. However, there aren't any participants in San Mateo only SF. These little things are nice. I hope they continue even once I'm deep into treatment.
The first wig shop I went to was super nice...yeah $400 super nice. Some insurances will give you a prescription for a prosthesis (the wig), but not Kaiser. This is okay, obviously that shop was overpriced. It wasn't even real hair...which I've learned is harder to take care of anyway.
Mom and I went to House of Wigs yesterday and had a great time. The store had LOTS of non-old-lady wigs and funky colors. The best part was that they were reasonably priced around $80. Kaiser directed me to one wig website that runs around $50 a wig. But from my experience, you MUST try the wig on. Some were so cute on the mannequin but not my head. I have to point out that both stores made me feel like buying a wig was a normal accessory. No pressure, they genuinely wanted to find something that looked good and felt good for me. Also, yesterday's wigs didn't look like wigs on my head. As of right now, I feel that I will feel confident wearing one around.
So I didn't buy anything b/c of today's appointment w/the American Cancer Society. But I bet we'll be headed down to Los Altos for group & wig purchasing tomorrow.
