Lucius turned 16weeks old this past Tuesday. I've been back at work for 4 weeks. I've yet to clock in a full 40 hours. 3 weeks ago, Lucius got his personality and started smiling and looking at new things.
We got a card from great aunt Bobbie (thanks!) today which pointed out we hadn't updated the blog in awhile. I didn't realize it'd been that long. But I'm also not surprised. Being a working parent is hard. I've pretty much given up on cleaning the house to make time for Lucius and us. So things like the blog, checkbook balancing, creative meals, have all gone to the wayside. I've been working flexible hours at work and it's greatly helped me ease back into work. Last week I was suppose to hit 40 hours, but I was unable to work the 8 hours at home that I needed. So this week I started working 9 hours while at work. This way I only have to find 4 hours at home. But even with working from home one day a week, I find it hard to be motivated. Last weekend, I got my "mommy" powers. I was trying to do work, but heard Lucius screaming for over 10 minutes with trev. So I came out to take him for a little bit, and give trev a break. As soon as I took him he silenced. So the rest of day I spent feeding him and letting him sleep on me. Hence why I didn't get my full 40 hours. I'm 10 hours short this week, with all of friday to clock in time. Hopefully I can work my 9 and only need to clock one hour on the weekend.
So I came back to a new position at work, creative director. I am now over all the designers (exhibit and graphics). The whole company has been restructured. I think this helped me back into work, too. My previous position was a bit boring. But now, I'm very busy and being constantly challenged. Obviously, I'd much rather be at home with my son. But who wouldn't prefer to be a stay at home mom? It's the dream. But I can say for now, I think working is going to work out. It also helps that Lucius is being babysat by his loving grandparents.
Speaking of Lucius, I know that's the only reason anyone reads this blog nowadays, so I better start talking about him. He's been sleeping through the night since mid-January, 9-10 hours. He did not take to daylight savings time and is now waking up an hour later than he use to. We got him to laugh one night by blowing raspberries on his tummy. His laugh is the cutest thing we've ever seen. Sadly, we haven't been able to duplicate it since. He smiles a lot more these days. There's nothing better than him smiling just b/c he sees you enter the room he's in. He's begun to drool and gnaws on his fists all the time. I thought it was a sign of teething until other people told me he'd be cranky. We're not having that symptom, so I think he's just learning. He's close to being able to sit up on his own. he's been sleeping in his crib since the beginning of February, swaddled of course. He's wearing some 6 month clothing. Last time we weighed him he was just shy of 15pounds. He goes to the dr. a week from tomorrow. At that time we'll get true measurements. He's begun to babble in his (what we are calling it) big boy voice. This just means it's louder. Oh yeah, trev caught him saying I love you on video. He also likes to say hello and OK. We started introducing him to formula. His hair is almost grown back in, and mine is falling out.
Things are good. Times are more challenging, but we're figuring it out happily. I will try to post pictures once I'm on the pc vs the iPad (I haven't uploaded new pictures lately). And aunt Bobbie, I would really like for us to come to the reunion this year. I just can't say for sure this far out. Goodnight everyone.
Maybe we can all make it up for the reunion this year. That would be fun (of course, I'm sure it won't be quite as eventful as the last now that we have kids...ha!). I do believe that Lucius is probably teething. That's exactly how Jack started teething...and hasn't stopped drooling since! He's like a faucet! I have to keep a bib on him at all times.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you are liking being back at work. Working and being a mommy is hard...and I admire you for doing it.
Looking forward to seeing y'all soon! - Barb
4 months is the age a lot of people start to blame everything on teething (I know I did). Babies are fascinated by their hands at this age and start to put everything in their mouths, which make their little bodies produce even more saliva than they can swallow. More than likely he'll let you know in uncertain terms that he's teething (red swollen sore gum, elevated temp, fussiness,etc...). I like that our babies are so close in age that I'm reading about a lot of the same things that are happening in our house as well :).
ReplyDeleteOk, make that "no uncertain terms."
