progress for me and Lucius

I had my measurements taken from my 6 week bootcamp class today. The results were all minuses, but not necessarily big changes. So...to make myself feel better I went and looked at my measurements from the beginning of the year. I'm down 32lbs and 17" (bust, waist, hips). I'm pretty sure when you see commercials of weight lose they add all the lost inches together, right? So, I'm feeling better now.

Yesterday I took back my dreaded mom jeans from old navy. The gold stitching around the zipper started to unravel and looked super obvious. I figured since I was there I would try a smaller size b/c the size I had bought did stretch entirely too much after a few hours. The first pair I tried on was huge. I was baffled to think I was 2 sizes smaller. I asked the clerk to get me a smaller size (a service I utilize now that I have a small human with me :). Unfortunately they brought back skinny jeans vs bootcut, so I still had to get dressed and go find the size myself. I couldn't find the 2 sizes smaller jean, so I grabbed another jean of the same one size smaller. I discovered what I tried on before was freakishly irregular. This was a nice snug fit. I knew I wasn't 2 sizes smaller! I sure hope the clerk took my word for truth and properly labeled that first pair so someone else doesn't waste as much time as I did. So glad I didn't just pick up a pair and go. I guess you can't go anywhere and expect the sizes to be consistent.

I'm taking 1-2 weeks off to let my knees heal. The bootcamp was very high intensity. I'm hoping rest and a new pair of shoe will fit that. I got evaluated for new shoes yesterday. I was a half size smaller and no longer need stability shoes. Crazy to think my posture/balance has gotten better. however, if I start running more than going to the gym then I will likely need stability shoes, minus the inserts I was wearing. So good healthy news all around.

btw- thanks barb for the ebay suggestion on jeans. I couldn't believe how much cheaper they were, new - $118 to $50 on ebay. I'm going to see if I can wait until Christmas before investing in a new pair.

Little man is blowing me away everyday with his capacity for learning. Our neighbors babysat last weekend. The last time they babysat he was around 17 months old. They had a real rough time getting him to go to bed and you could tell they were a bit frazzled at Lucius being so upset, This time they said he was so easy. He never fussed. He told them what he wanted. He played and watched movies with her 12 year old daughter, his best bud Anna (Savanna). They said it was night and day. Now that's a report a parent can be pretty stinking proud to receive.
Right now he's caught up with the alphabet, animal names w/their proper sound (especially his favorite, Ze-ba - zebra) and sitting down to play pretend, either with cars or cooking.
  • He's begun to string 4-5 words together.
  • understands greetings and says them
  • has become more vocal to strangers since I started going to the gym.
  • Still acts bashful to some ladies
  • still lives on chicken nuggets, oatmeal, crackers, ketchup, and the occasional milkshake. Generally, he will try new foods, but ends up spitting them out.
  • is more willingly to try new experiences, like he got over his fear of the parachute game.
  • likes to color but typically wants me to draw for him
  • loves tthe ipad. Just last night I decided to lift the "hide the ipad so it's still new and exciting when he's being a pill" rule. I downloaded a bunch of PBS apps. He's eager to learn, so I feel there's nothing wrong with him spending some time electronically doing so.
  • We have a pretty constant routine, now that I go to the gym. Gym, breakfast w/Sesame street, nap, errands/or toddler activity, dinner, play. You'll see lunch is missing from that list. He never wants a full meal but every once in awhile. He's more interested in getting out and playing.
  • I find it useful that I can explain things to him like "hold on", "just a minute" and he'll patiently wait. Such a relief.
  • One of my favorite saying is him saying, "I'm coming!" which means for me to follow him :)
  • The girls have always tolerated him. But now they love him since he started wanting to give them their treats. The girls are definitely getting more treats a day b/c Lucius remembers better than us. everyone wins.
  • He can blow bubbles
It's just a really fascinating/fun time. I'm pretty sure we said that a few months ago too. Who knew watching a little human learn would be so gratifying. (I may have already used that phrase as well).
