I thought I would take this time to write about how I've been doing during this new adventure in our life.
13 weeks into this and still feeling completely great. I get sudden tiredness and I get hungry for a small snack way more often, but that's about the only changes I've had to deal with. Well, I haven't been sleeping as soundly as I use to either. Poor Trev volunteered to sleep on the couch when he was suffering with a cold that made him cough throughout the night.
I haven't really had food craving but I do seem to be eating more red meat and diary products. But it hasn't been anything like "I have to eat it now!". All the things I've heard about being pregnant seem to not apply to me, yet.
6 weeks into pregnancy and my clothes were already not comfortable. That was a bit upsetting. I thought you got to wear your clothes for at least 3 months. From what I've read they say it's because your weight shifts. That's the only logical explanation because I hadn't gained any weight at that time. According to my doctor, at my last visit, I've only gained a pound, but that's not what my records show.
We've had 2 ultrasounds. One at 6weeks 5 days. All we could see was the fetal pole and a strong heart beat. The second one was way more interesting. It actually looked like a baby. And because we were the first appointment of the day the tech went ahead and did a 4D ultrasound. Crazy looking. Originally I wasn't going to get one of those because you have to pay for it out of pocket. But we probably will now. It's only $125, and I know our folks will want to see the baby that way.
I'm finally going to tell work tomorrow. Unfortunately, my pregnancy pretty much coincides with my start date. So I was waiting to be employed 90 days before telling them. The company is maybe 25 years old and I have a good friend who'd worked with the company for 20+ years. She never saw a single woman employee pregnant here. So I'm still worried how it's going to go over. I mean, they don't even have maternity leave listed in their employee handbook....fast forward a day...I told my boss and she was super excited for me. It was sort of nice being asked baby questions and not even addressing the whole job aspect. I guess we'll deal with that later. So it's been a good day.
Next week I go to my next appointment. no ultrasound for this one.
My doctor is pretty laid back. Only one thing surprised me and it was her non-tolerance towards caffeine. I "drank" 2 diet Dr. Peppers a day and she made me go down to one. The crazy part was when I asked her about wine, expecting to be told no, but got told it's fine. One a week would be fine. Since when is alcohol less damaging that caffeine? Regardless, I've not had any wine and have cut down to 1 caffeine drink a week. I'm also not suppose to eat fish from the sea, but shellfish is okay, or cold lunchmeat (like subway where it's been sitting around for who knows how long). As long as it's heated, I've got the okay to eat it. Good, since I'm a sandwich junkie.
I'm trying to get back in the gym to stay flexible and gain some upper body strength, since I found holding babies such a chore at my 30th bday party :).
Well, I think this is a pretty good update for everyone to read. check back and maybe we'll have more exciting news to share with you all.
Glad the work reveal went well, I know you were nervous about it. -- I remember hearing soft serve frozen yogurt was not great either because some bacteria can grow in the machine if it's not cleaned out often enough. -- I think caffeine can rev the baby's heart beat unnecessarily, I would drink a coke when I had a headache instead of popping some Tylenol and I did switch to decaf coffee. -- Babies are usually between 7-9lbs so you'll have a slow progression of building your upper body strength. :)
